"Wow! These are rare in our time!" i said. "Yeah i know! Look at all these old computers! Mabye some online research can help us out." Marcy concluded. I sat down and said "Computer, On.... nothing. Computer, On!" Still nothing had happened. "Maybe its broken?" Marcy said. I looked at her with a weird look and said "Remember our old apartment? Well dad used to have a computer like this, sure it was alot more updated, but it did have this thing." I sat and glared at the silver thing with two buttons. "He used to rub it on the table in order to have to computer complete certain tasks. "Then try it" Marcy said. "Okay okay" i said. I moved the cursor up onto the internet icon and clicked the button on the silver computer task completer, then searched "Time Machine Help" and a bunch of listings came up.
"Now is it looking more familiar? Google hasn't changed a bit hahaha" I said seeming smart. "Okay good! something that we actually recognize!" Marcy said relieved. "Hey look Marcy, James Smith- Time Travel Expert (Not Licensed), This might be our guy. It says here that he lives in the northern side of Gahanna." I said. "Xavier? Whats Gahanna?" Marcy asked, "Gahanna is where we live but the name changed a year before you were born, but we really need to get going if we are going to meet this guy" I said.
We hitched a ride with a fellow carpet cleaner that was headed to Gahanna anyways.
45 Minuit's Later
"Here we are, 1668 Glendale Court." I said. "Do you think hes nice Xavier?" Marcy asked, "I do not know, but we have to get out of this time period before dark, id rather not sleep on a park bench in a strange year. Plus we have to be careful, any change we make can alter the year we live in drastically" I said. We rang the doorbell and stood back, as an old lady opened the door and stared at us. "Good morning ma'am, does a James Smith live at this residence?" Marcy asked. "Why yes sweety, may i ask who you two are?" Asked the old lady. "Yes, well, we are fans of his website and we were hoping if we could interview him for our school project on time travel." I said sneakily. "Oh of course! Come right in! But if i were you, i wouldnt get caught up in all that time travel business, it makes you look crazy." said the lady.
We walked inside her house and walked down into the basement where the lady led us. As we rounded the corner, i saw a big, Caucasian, hairy, man sitting in a high tech looking desk chair. It seemed as if his eyes were in a trans and glued to the computer monitor. It also smelled of root beer and arm sweat like he had been down here for a little too long. "Hello Mr. Smith" I said, and the guy turned around and said "Mr. Smith was my fathers name, please call me James, The ultra destroyer." "Yes well, me and my little sister were hoping that you could help us build a time machine. You see, i saw a movie on time travel in my science class in the year 2024, so me and my sister built one and came back in time 24 years earlier, the reason we need a new one is because we didnt know that the machine was only a one way stop." I said. "Did i ask you for a story? Look here kids, if you want my help, an expert, to build a time machine, its gonna cost you." James said. "Well how much?" asked Marcy. We watched as he mumbled to himself while calculating numbers on a calculator. "The cost including the amount of man hours and supplies will be about 10 grand" James said.
There was a moment of silence as me and Marcy shared looks. "James, you seem like a guy that fancies new technology, well do i have a deal for you." I said, "How about i trade you my communicator for a time machine. Sure its not worth 10 grand in my time, but in your time? Well it is the only one." I said with a grin. I carefully pulled out a shiny communicator that bleeped and flashed a holographic screen. The machine looked for signal but could not find any on the fact that the signal hasnt been invented yet. We watched as his eyes widened and he whispered softly in a hgih pitch voice "Deal".
Thats when the fun started, we gathered all the materials during the day and slept in his upstairs room at night. We worked all day and found that with the help of my communicator, the estimated time for completion was at least halved. James was very nice to us to following week, probably because of the futuristic gadget that we had givin to him. Then before we knew it, it was completed. "This sure doesnt look like a time machine" Marcy said. "Well of course it doesnt to you guys, this time machine is 24 years before your time machine so i expect it to be different" said James in a snarly voice. "Well does it work?" I asked, "It does now that i hooked up the communicators plutonium toned flux capacitor battery" said James. We all gazed at the machine because we all knew that it was the time to test and use the time machine. We are either going to die, or go back home. A fifty-fifty chance that me and marcy are willing to take. "So what you do is put these helmets and belts on, then i will flip the switch and if everything goes well, you will be back to where your time machine departed" James said. Me and Marcy put on the low tech helmets and utility belts. We sat down and got comfortable. "Thank you for everything James" Marcy said. "Hey, its not everyday that i meet two kids from the future, and i get a free communicator out of it all" James said. James walked over to the counter and flipped the switch. The machine buzzed and whirred as we vanished from thin air. Then all of a sudden, things we silent, and we were in our living room. "WERE HOME!!" i yelled. "Mom, Dad!" marcy yelled. We ran out of the living room and saw our parents in the kitchen. We ran up and hugged them both like we have never hugged them before.
"Oh good you guys are back from weekend programming class, and thank you for the hugs but your going to miss your school transporter" mom said. So we grabbed our bags, still happy to be home, and ran out to the rocket awaiting for the departure to school. Then it was back to regular routine, i had science class, and Marcy had art class in the elementary school part of our building. But there was something awfully strange about my science teacher. Concluding from last weeks video on time travel, he started to explain about how he had witnessed time travel himself back in 2000. He explained about how two kids from this time had traveled back and met him. Also about how he used to be called James Smith until he had gotten his name changed for legal reasons for having access to future technology. Grinning, i ran out of the classroom and video messaged Marcy on a friends communicator. We exchanged looks and then she also figured out that, Mr. Hibble, my science teacher, was the guy we had just spent the craziest week of our lives with.
